Dear Visa Officer,
My name is , and I am applying for a study permit to pursue a college diploma in Canada. I plan to join the Automotive Business program at Georgian College in May 2024. In this letter, I intend to clearly present my background, purposes for studying in Canada, and my future aspirations, demonstrating my strong ties to China and commitment to respecting Canadian laws during my studies.
Concepts of the Automotive Industry(AUTO 1018)、 Introduction to Automotive Technology(AUTO 1019)等与汽车相关的专业课,我将会对汽车行业和产品具有更全面的知识和更深入的了解,提升我在车企求职的竞争力。
My Ties to My Homeland Family. Job opportunities. Phonation and Articulation of Announcing
Commitment to Legal and Ethical Standards
In the final section of my study plan, I wish to emphasize my commitment to upholding the law and fulfilling my obligations as an international student in Canada. I have a clean criminal record and assure the visa officer of my adherence to local laws and regulations. This includes paying taxes as required and respecting the cultural and legal norms of Canada. Importantly, I commit to departing from Canada within the legal validity of my visa, honoring the terms of my stay. This commitment reflects my respect for the legal and administrative processes of Canada and my dedication to maintaining the integrity of my international student status. Attached to this letter, you will find the relevant documents.
Sincerely,
Study Plan
Dear Visa Officer,
My name is , and I am applying for a study permit to pursue a college diploma in Canada. I plan to join the Automotive Business program at Georgian College in May 2024. In this letter, I intend to present my background, purposes for studying in Canada, and my future aspirations, demonstrating my strong ties to China and commitment to respecting Canadian laws during my studies.
Career and Educational Background
In 2018, I graduated from the Art of Announcing and Anchoring (AAA) major at the Communication University of China (CUC), a program renowned for cultivating talents in roles such as on-camera journalists, radio hosts, TV news anchors, and show hosts. Over the years of my university studies, I became increasingly disappointed with the constraints on free speech and media censorship in China, which ultimately swayed my decision against a career in the traditional media industry.
Beginning in 2017, I experimented with various job roles across different sectors, including content creation, sports event planning, and cosmetic advertising copywriting, but none of these roles truly captured my interest in the long term.
In 2018, I began a career teaching the Art of Announcing and Anchoring (AAA) at a training institute for high school students. When I initially took the job, I didn't envision it as my long-term career. Nevertheless, I soon recognized my aptitude for teaching and the job's substantial financial benefits, which made it a worthwhile endeavour.
After accumulating approximately two years of teaching experience, in 2020, I co-founded my own training institute in Beijing, where we specialize in teaching high school students AAA. My role primarily involves teaching, creating educational content, and client relations, while my business partner handles the other operational aspects of our company.
Why I Chose to Pause My Career for Further Education
The industry I have been involved in is facing significant shifts, and I need new knowledge and skills to seek new employment opportunities.
To provide a clear understanding, it's essential to outline the context of my industry. In China, most high school students are admitted to universities through the National College Entrance Examination, known as Gaokao, where admission is predominantly based on test scores. However, for certain art-related majors, universities retain a significant degree of discretion in their admissions process. High school students who aspire to study AAA in university must pass a series of stringent tests assessing their physical attributes and artistic talents. These tests include auditions organized by the universities themselves, known as 'Xiaokao' (tests by universities), as well as the 'Provincial Unified Exam' conducted by provincial educational examination institutes in China. Together, these exams are collectively referred to as 'Yikao' (Arts Exams) in China.
Since 2018, I have been working as a trainer for students preparing for the Arts Exams. Generally, my job involves imparting knowledge and skills to high school students, assisting them in performing better in these exams and achieving higher scores, which increases their chances of being admitted to prestigious universities. As the AAA program at CUC is among the top in the country, I found two jobs smoothly, both offering significant income.
Thanks to the high quality of my teaching, I have gained recognition and respect from numerous students and colleagues.
In 2020, I started my training institute of AAA in Beijing. Operating under a centralized business model, we attract students from all over the country. Our curriculum, tailored for the Xiaokao of top universities, involves higher tuition and requires students to take leave to study in Beijing. In contrast, regional and localized institutions aim primarily at students within their provinces or cities, offering more affordable tuition and weekend classes that allow students to study locally without long-distance travel or the need to take leave from school.
In this very year, all the courses we offered were fully enrolled, marking a major success for our institution in its first year. However, due to the recurring outbreaks of COVID-19, China's public health policies became increasingly stringent from 2021 to 2022. Individuals travelling between cities were often required mandatory 7-14 days’ quarantines even if they were not infected. Consequently, fewer and fewer potential students were willing to travel for their studies, which used to be a popular method. Despite our endeavours to offer online solutions, our enrollment was still impacted.
In September 2021, the Chinese Ministry of Education issued guidelines for reforming Yikao, which included strict control over the scope and scale of Xiaokao. Furthermore, universities that continue to organize Xiaokao are also required to replace the earlier rounds of Xiaokao with online tests or Provincial Unified Exams (source: link). This suggests that Xiaokao will gradually become less significant while Provincial Unified Exams will gain importance and that the numbers of both universities and students involved in Xiaokao will drop rapidly, while the figure for PUE will increase. As a result, more and more future arts candidates will tend to choose local training institutions over the nationwide alternatives. Faced with this situation, any transformation plan for our firm seems to come with high costs and low returns. Therefore, I have decided to return to school and pursue a field that truly interests me and in which I excel, to explore new career opportunities. Besides, thanks to the small scale of my firm, I can easily maintain its operations during my studies and even continue to provide some online courses.
The impact on my business presented an opportunity for me to pursue my genuine interest and aspiration in the automotive industry.
Although my current profession is lucrative, I have never considered it as my lifelong career. Over the years, my work experiences revealed a profound interest and passion in the realms of business, marketing, and sales. Moreover, my exceptional interpersonal skills, developed through my education and work experience, have made me confident about a bright future in a business-related field. Additionally, I have always been deeply interested in the automotive industry but lacked the opportunity to enter this field. The downturn in my business gave me a chance to rethink my career path. Fortunately, the savings I accumulated from my years of entrepreneurship can support my pursuit of further education. I discussed this decision with my parents, who wholeheartedly support my desire to continue my education in a field I am truly passionate about and have also agreed to finance my studies. These are the reasons why I chose to pause my work to study.
My Goals
Through my studies at Georgian College, I will acquire the essential professional knowledge and skills necessary to enter the automotive industry and cultivate a global perspective. These qualities will grant me a significant advantage in China's job market. The automotive market in China is vast and rapidly developing, particularly in the realm of New Energy Vehicles (NEVs, including Electric Vehicles and Hybrid Electric Vehicles). According to the data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, from January to July 2023, sales of NEVs in China reached 4.526 million units, a significant increase compared to the 1.478 million
units sold in the same period in 2021. This represents a threefold increase in just two years and a sixfold increase in three years. Additionally, during the same period in 2023, exports of NEVs totalled 636,000 units, marking a 150% increase from 2022(Data Sources: link1, link2). Therefore, I am optimistic about the growth of China's automotive market. After graduating, I plan to return to China and work for international automakers like Honda or leading Chinese domestic NEV brands like NIO and Li Auto. These companies offer attractive salaries and opportunities for advancement. Given the strong demand of automotive enterprises for global marketing, my international education background will provide me with a distinct advantage, particularly in roles that involve business development coordination, market analysis, product management, and client relations within the automotive sector.
Why Canada?
Canadian colleges offer programs that help students efficiently get ready and competent for a new career, which is aligned perfectly with my needs. Canadian college education places a strong emphasis on cultivating practical vocational skills. Course designs are typically focused on real-world applications and the demands of the job market. The curriculum is updated rapidly to stay current with industry trends and is tailored to simulate actual work scenarios, making it directly applicable to professional practice. This close integration with industry practices is less common in China. The Automotive Business Program that I will be pursuing at Georgian College includes two Co-op terms, providing me with approximately six months of hands-on work experience during my studies. This is particularly important in fields with a strong emphasis on practical skills like the automotive business, and such experience will significantly benefit my job prospects upon my return to China. In contrast, both bachelor's and master's programs in China tend to lean more toward theoretical research, offering fewer opportunities for practical experience. While vocational schools in China do provide career-oriented education, they often lag behind Canadian colleges in terms of educational quality and social recognition.
The high quality and global recognition of Canadian education will bolster my competitiveness in China's job market. With a Canadian educational background, I will be highly favoured by employers, especially by those in China. Additionally, as an English-speaking country, Canada provides an immersive environment for mastering English, a crucial skill in the global economy and particularly valuable in China's job market.
Canada, as a study destination, offers a highly attractive social and natural environment. Firstly, Canada boasts high living standards, a diverse and inclusive cultural environment, and breathtaking natural scenery, providing international students with excellent conditions for both study and living. Secondly, located in North America, the world's second-largest automobile market, Canada has a developed and well-established automotive industry. This provides students studying automotive-related fields with abundant learning resources and Co-op opportunities, making it an ideal place to study automotive business.
The Reasons why I chose Georgian College
Georgian College is renowned for its Co-op programs. They collaborate with over 6,200 employers including companies like Honda of Canada Mfg., making it easier for students to gain Co-op work experience. As I don't have local connections to help me find opportunities to accumulate work experience, this is particularly beneficial
for me. Additionally, Georgian College is known for its high-quality education, and students are highly regarded by employers. The employment rate within six months of graduation is 88.1%, significantly surpassing the Ontario average of 83.4%. In the specific Automotive Business program I've chosen, the employment rate is higher than 90%.
Automotive Business is a signature program of Georgian College. Compared to typical business programs, it offers greater insight and specialized training for the automotive industry. By studying specialized courses such as "Concepts of the Automotive Industry (AUTO 1018)" and "Introduction to Automotive Technology (AUTO 1019)," I will gain comprehensive knowledge and a deeper understanding of the automotive sector and its products. This will significantly enhance my competitiveness when seeking employment opportunities within the automotive industry. I am also eagerly looking forward to participating in the annual Georgian College Auto Show.
Ontario, the province where Georgian College is located, is one of Canada's economic hubs, offering abundant educational resources and a high-quality academic environment. It is also home to North America's largest automotive manufacturing hub. The city of Barrie, where the college is situated, is near Toronto. Living here provides the convenience of being near metropolitan resources while maintaining a lower cost of living.
My Ties to My Homeland
Family. We Chinese people place an extreme emphasis on family and unity. Additionally, as an only Child, I have a very close relationship with my parents. Throughout my upbringing, I have witnessed numerous sacrifices made by my parents to provide better nurturing, and I am deeply grateful and moved by their selflessness. For instance, even before I started elementary school, my mother gave up her career as a to become an elementary school teacher, all in order to work at the same school I attended, ensuring that she could spend more time with me every day. The close bond I share with my family serves as a strong connection between us, making me reluctant to settle overseas and be far away from them. I deeply appreciate their sacrifices and hope for more convenient opportunities to be with them and take care of them in the future. Therefore, I am confident that I will return to China after graduation.
Job opportunities. My academic history in China, combined with my Canadian experience, will enhance my competitiveness in the job market in China. However, in Canada, my undergraduate degree may not provide a significant advantage. For example, one of the key components of my training at CUC was a specialized course called 'Phonation and Articulation of Announcing,' which aimed to refine my Mandarin Chinese pronunciation and eliminate any accent. In China, this skill is highly valued, whereas it may not hold the same level of importance in Canada. Additionally, all of my networking and social connections are in China. The connections I have built over the past decade will be instrumental in my future career development when I return to China.
Importantly, I commit to departing from Canada within the legal validity of my visa, honouring the terms of my stay. This commitment reflects my respect for the legal and administrative processes of Canada and my dedication to maintaining the integrity of my international student status.
